Working on a 5.7L V8 in a 2005 Chrysler 300C. Its a pretty cool gangster-Bently looking ride but this Hemi is a bit sick. Customer complaint involved an overheated condition, poor running, and a hard time starting.
Judging by the way it ran when I pulled it in, this baby has a dead hole
Out came the coil and spark plug so that we could do a quick check for compression and in went the borescope camera. Judging by the pic, some debris broke off or entered the cylinder while the engine was running and got hammered repeatedly hundreds or even thousands of times per minute and left this cylinder looking like this.
The line/seam mid picture is the head gasket. Above is the cylinder head and below the cylinder.
Heavy dents and gouges in the top of the piston and at the cylinder head lead us to condemn this engine for replacement.
